The New Balance Festival of Running 2013 is underway at the PHSOB Club in Pretoria, South Africa.

Australian Doug Kewley has been leading since the very early stages of the race which began December 27th with 45 runners and at the end of Day 3 had stretched a 70 km cushion over Carlo Strangelove with Eric Wright currently in third spot.

The womens race is a much tighter affair with only 16 km separating the top four women led by Renee Nell who is in 6th place overall – neck and neck with Arun Bhardwaj.

In the 48 hour race just underway the four runners are led by Johan Van Der Merwe and the one female participant is Annaline Maloney.

The 24 and 12 hour events have yet to start.

Weather conditions have improved after a period of rain that quickly turned the track muddy in places and the forecast is good for the rest of the event.
