
The Wild Horse 200 2025
The event is known by several names, including the Wild Horse 200 Mile, the South Wales 200, or the De Cymru 200. It is described as a 200-mile ultra-marathon and one of Wales’ toughest endurance events. First to reach the finish line were Natalie Utting and Damian Watson (NZL).
Race Details
Date: The 2025 event took place from Wednesday, 21 May to Monday, 26 May.
Start Time: The race began at 06:00 am on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. Racers were encouraged to allow plenty of time for preparation before the start.
Location: Start: Chepstow, Wales, with the start line located at The Back, Chepstow NP16 5HH, UK, at The Boat.
Finish: Worm’s Head.
Distance: The race distance is 200 miles, approximately 321.8 km.
Elevation Gain: The event has an elevation profile described as hilly and features significant climbing. The total elevation gain is approximately 30,000 feet. One source states this as 9118m / 30,000ft, while another source notes a total elevation gain of 29,583 feet.
Course Description: This is a point-to-point event that takes participants across the trails and mountains of South Wales. The route winds through iconic trails such as Offa’s Dyke and the Beacons Way, traversing the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains. It then follows the Heart Of Wales Line onto the Wales Coast Path to the finish line at Worm’s Head. The terrain is predominantly 80% trail and 20% road. It is described as a scenic and challenging race, exploring the vast reaching mountainous landscape. The course is fully-marked.
Duration & Cut-offs: This is a non-stop race with a strict total time limit of 120 hours (5 days) to complete the event. The clock starts at the beginning and does not stop until the finish line is reached. Runners must reach the 100-mile marker in 55 hours. The longest time someone has taken to complete the course in the past is 116 hours.
Aid Stations & Support: The race is well-supported with aid stations every approximately 25 miles.

These stations provide warm food, warm drinks, cold food, cold drinks, medical attention, and a morale boost. A skilled medical team is available. Dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Sleep Stations: Optional sleep stations are provided along the course. There are 3 full-fare optional sleep stations.
Live Tracking: Live tracking was provided for runners, allowing friends, family, and others to watch participants online in real time. Each runner receives a tracker at the start.
