Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset 2010

mongolia_sunrise_sunset_logo.ultraFor the 11th time, hikers and runners will meet on the shores of a remote and pristine lake in northern Mongolia to take part in Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset (MS2S) – a 42km and 100km trail run.
This event will take place from July 17th to the 24th. Offering a challenge to hike or run a breathtaking course in one of the world?s most beautiful and remote National Parks, MS2S also offers the chance to explore Mongolia?s unique nature and culture.

Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset is a non-profit event that aims to preserve Hovsgol National Park’s nature and culture. We do so by supporting the Park?s development in environmentally minded ways, promoting it as a travel destination to a culturally open public and by ensuring that the Park?s local inhabitants can keep their cultural identity. We use all the proceeds from the event to help build the Park’s infrastructure and to develop innovative solutions to its particular problems. Our current efforts are focused on addressing the most pressing issue facing the Park at the moment ? the new influx of garbage generated by local Mongolian tourism. In 2001 we donated a garbage collection truck and since 2002 we have realized a garbage education and garbage control project that is now being adopted across Mongolia under the auspices of the Ministry for Nature and the Environment.

The second event (taking place on the weekend of March 27-28), the Hongzhou Mountain Marathon consists of a beautiful and challenging 42KM course as well as a 25km +/- short course, starting and finishing at the Hangzhou Shangri La on scenic West Lake. The course will take racers through beautiful, off-the-map forest and mountain trails, through bamboo groves and tea plantations, along high ridges with breathtaking Chinese landscape-painting views, and to traditional villages and Buddhist temples.
