Badwater Ultramarathon 2009

badwaterIn ultra-endurance and extreme sports events, the 32nd Badwater Ultramarathon which takes place July 13-15, 2009 is considered by some to be the “the world’s toughest foot race,”. Athletes including runners, triathletes, adventure racers, and mountaineers compete 135 miles (217km) non-stop from Badwater,Death Valley CA,280′ (85m) below sea level, to the finish at Mt. Whitney Portal at 8360′ (2533m),the highest point in the contiguous United States, in temperatures up to 130F (55c). The course, covering three mountain ranges, has a total of 13,000′ (3962m) of ascent and 4,700′ (1433m) of descent.

Runners from the the UK include Mark Cobain, Ian Parker and Sharon Gayter. Dean Karnazes has signed up as has Pam Reed.
