The 18th Annual Self Transcendence 10 Day Race 2013 started on Wednesday, April 17th. 37 ultrarunners set off in the worlds only 10 day race at its home in Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, New York.

The course is a flat1 mile loop on asphalt paths and roads near the famous site of the World’s Fair of 1964 and close to the USTA facility, home of the US Open. The start was in pleasant weather although the race is notorious for difficult and challenging weather conditions with temperature extremes between 33º and 90º.

Australia’s Martin Fryer continues to stretch his lead at the 36 hour point with 3100 mile specialist Ananda Lahari still in touch with the leader. At this point of the race quite a few runners are taking a break so the mileages are not accurate reflcections of where the runners are in their cycle.

In the ladies race Shamita Achenbach-König still leads though, again in terms of miles the top three look to be close together at this point with Kaneenika moing into the third spot.
