Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race 2017 – Daily Updates – Day 13

Daily Diary
Fri 30th June

It’s 75F 57%
A little overcast
Good conditions for running

At the end of today, day 13 SMARANA PUNTIGAM 46, Vienna, Austria is in 4th place, 4th man, with 800.150 miles
After a nearly 9 year break, he returns. After 7 straight finishes, and still ranked 17th, and an Austrian record holder for 1000 miles, 2000km, 3000km, 2000 miles, and 3100 miles.
After a great first 2 days, he has been plagued with blisters to the heels and soles of his feet.
So even to the most experienced this event can be very hard on them.
He is very fortunate to have the services of an excellent handler (Horst Sykora), who has not only tended to his feet, but become a cobbler cutting shoes and insoles in an attempt to find some comfort for him. He has also cycled to local shops to get sandals, and more shoes. This is really keeping Smarana going and steadied the ship with the 6 days being steady and just above the dreaded 109 laps ?is showing real character.
