Sandakphu 70 Mile Himalayan Race 2013

Sandakphu day 2

Sandakphu day 2The WindChasers’ – The Sandakphu 70 Mile Himalayan Race is a very unique 4 day stage event that takes you through some of the world’s most beautiful yet challenging and versatile terrains in the Himalayan Region. The course runs through the Indo-Nepal border- one of the most remote yet culturally rich regions in the world; the highest elevation being 3636M. The course takes you through a Himalayan National Park as well as offers views of the 4 of the world’s tallest peaks – Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu amongst many others.

Race Directors Ram Sethu and Priyadarshini, both seasoned ultra runners decided to make this race course more accessible to runners across the world when they ran an ultra in a similar course in the Himalayas a few years back and realized it would be a bigger challenge to organize a world class boutique racing event in this remote location.
Along with the expertise of Course Director Pemba Sherpa, grandson and protégé of the great Sherpa Ang Tshering and an experienced medic, the WindChasers put together a spectacular racing event, fast catching popularity amongst runners of all levels of experience.

Runners participating in this race need to be well trained in order to avoid injuries. The race has lenient cut off times which are subject to change depending on the unpredictable weather conditions. The runners are completely covered (Transport, food, lodging, aid station supplies etc. from and to Bagdogra Airport) from the time of arrival at Bagdogra Airport, the event lasts exactly 6 days.

Next race is scheduled from 27th April through 2nd May 2013. Details on the Windchasers.com website.
