Tucson ultrarunner Pam Reed and her 2006 book “The Extra Mile” have been nominated for a Billie Award in journalism.
The award is presented by the Women’s Sports Foundation to recognize extraordinary contributions in the media’s portrayal of women in sports.
The 257-page autobiography highlights Reed’s running career, which includes two victories in the Badwater Ultramarathon and a 300-mile nonstop local run over four days.
It deals with her 15-year battle with anorexia and personal challenges: two marriages and raising a family while running three to four times a day.
