North Face® Ultra-Trail Du Mont Blanc® 2009

COUNTDOWN TO THE NORTH FACE® ULTRA-TRAIL DU MONT BLANC®

166km, 46 hours, 3 countries (France, Italy and Switzerland), 2300 competitors and an elevation gain higher than that of Everest… this is The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc®.

UTMB_logo_225smRunning 166km which is the equivalent of 4 marathons back to back on flat, even ground is strenuous for the fittest ultra distance runners, however throw in off road extremities such as loose rocks, boulders, ever changing weather and 3 alpine regions, The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® is without a doubt the most gruelling ultra distance race a runner will ever tackle.

It’s not simply endurance and strength that are required on the mighty Mont Blanc, the race is a mental challenge too and it takes sheer determination and absolute focus to complete.

Among the competitors will be The North Face® sponsored endurance athlete from the UK, Lizzy Hawker. Lizzy won the women’s division in 2005, and again last year when she finished the race in an incredible time of 25h19:41.

TNF-Logo-Small300x227Keith Byrne, Senior Strategic & Trade Marketing Manager EMEA is also competing  and commented “The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc® is an amazing event.  The atmosphere is second to none which, as a returning competitor you relish as it helps you through the difficult times.  Seeing is believing, get yourself there!”

The competitors are due to set off on the full course on Friday 28th August at 6pm and you can follow the race on www.thenorthface.com/eu
