Challenge 24h Report Torrejon (Spain) 2008

A field of almost 70 started under extreme rainy conditions. Organised under IAU rules, major Spanish ultra club Ñ Ultrafondo set a fantastic scenario for new experiences and chances for good performances. All asphalted and mostly flat 1.000m course got soaked well before race starting time arrived.
Though, Jose Manso (ESP) got a 216,100m PB for a local win after 8h hours on a row under the rain. Female Spanish All Time best performance Rosario Muñoz (ESP) performed well under the conditions for a 164,918m win. Second male was also for a Ñ Ultrafondo member Angel de la Mata (207,600m), well ahead
of 3rd Eduard Clemente (over 200km too), and Edward Gallen (IRE) and Oliver Leu (GER).
Female Estefania Climent ran a PB of 150km for a second place, just ahead of Carmen Riquelme (143km).

IAAF measurement could be adjusted just hours before start as part of the charming Plaza inner ring had totally gone under water. But volunteers marked a magnificent alternative and aid station and Rest area could be maintained although unusual a windy and cold night.

Organisers are already starting work for 2009 edition. Stay tuned for more ultrarunning news from Spain
