Guest Blogger – Mitchell Proffman – Detoxing

Today is the 10th day of a 21-day vigorous detoxing program that I am doing. So far I have lost about 4 pounds. The purpose was not so much to lose weight as to clean out and get ready for the winter. Many people will fast or do “cleanses” as seasons change. The centerpiece is a whey protein shake made with fruit and water that is consumed 3 times per day. Psyllium is taken 3 times a day, and many herbs to help cleanse and detox the liver, kidney, and colon. Vegetables and fruit can be consumed liberally. In the modified version which I am doing, 4 ounces of lean protein can be consumed.

I ran a 5K race yesterday and had a time of 26 minutes and felt great. It is suggested that exercise be kept to about 30-40 minutes of moderate walking. Strenuous activity might be too difficult when the body is detoxing and could use rest instead. I have been feeling generally well. At times I have been hungry. My sleep was a bit interrupted the first few days, but has gotten better. I will post another update when I finish.
