The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team which was formed in 1977, has been holding ultramarathons since 1980 and the next races it will host, the Self-Transcendence 6 & 10 day races, will be the 98th and the 99th multiday race in its illustrious history as the foremost host of multiday races in the world.
Next months multiday races will bring the total of multiday events that the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team have hosted since its inception in 1977 to 99.
This race will have special significance to the runners as Race founder Sri Chinmoy and running legend Ted Corbitt, recently passed away.
The popular 6 day event attracts the biggest international field for a multiday race in the world and this year sees the return in the ladies event of last years winner, Australian Dipali Cunningham and second place finisher Kaneenika Janakova. Last year Kaneenika set a new national Slovakian record extending her own best to 422 miles.
I had the chance to speak to her and ask her a few questions about her training. Read the article here.
Also Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk is returning to New York to try his hand at the 10 day race along with Achim Heukemes another multiday expert.
More than 70 runners have started arriving in Queens for the 10 day race which starts tomorrow.
