Green Mountain Relay & Wild West Relay 2010 – Newsletter

GMR_logo_onlyTimberline Events ( http://www.timberlineevents.com ) is happy to announce a new event, the Civil War Relay (http://www.civilwarrelay.com ) in Oregon, a race we are reviving after a several year absence. The CWR is a bit different – it’s a 50-mile route broken up into 25 legs and run by 5-person teams. We are calling
it a “sprint” relay as the average distance of each leg is 2-miles.
This will mean a quick turn around for each of your five legs so it should result in an exciting day.

CWR_logo_170What does the Civil War have to do with Oregon? The date of the CWR has historically been the same weekend as the interstate college football game between PAC 10 rivals, the University of Oregon Ducks
and the Oregon State Beavers. The game is locally referred to as the “Civil War.”

The route is between the towns of Albany (right next to Corvallis, the home of OSU) and Eugene (a town rich in running history, and the home of the University of Oregon, Hayward Field, and Steve Prefontaine). Each year, the direction of the race will change, finishing in the town that is hosting the football game.

This year, the race will start in Albany and end in Eugene. The route is quite scenic, passing through farmland and woods, and for the most part, is a flat, fast course. It is the perfect opportunity to continue the trash talking after the football game, but with your legs.

Race day is Saturday December 5th. Registration is now open (http://www.civilwarrelay.com/entry ).

REGISTRATION OPENS NOVEMBER 1ST FOR THE GREEN MOUNTAIN RELAY AND WILD WEST RELAY

As we enter autumn, we are also preparing for our next year’s 200-mile team relays – the Green Mountain Relay (http://www.greenmountainrelay.com ) (Vermont) and the Wild West Relay (http://www.wildwestrelay.com ) – Get Your Ass Over the Pass! (Colorado). We had a great season and the changes and improvements we made were well received, so thank you very much! Every year we receive
feedback from participants on how much fun they had, how “stunning” the scenery of the courses is, and how well organized the races are.

The dates for our two long distance relays are:

5th Annual
Green Mountain Relay (
http://www.greenmountainrelay.com/entry/index.html )
Saturday – Sunday
June 19 – 20, 2010
(around the Summer Solstice)

7th Annual
Wild West Relay ( http://www.wildwestrelay.com/entry/index.html )
Friday – Saturday
August 6 – 7, 2010

The Wild West Relay is capped at one hundred fifty teams (with only ten High School team slots) and the Green Mountain Relay is capped at 100 total teams (also with a max of ten High School team slots).

As before, our Volunteers With a Purpose ( http://www.volunteerswithapurpose.org ) program will be an essential part of each relay. Last year was an incredible success as the program raised and we distributed $11,070 to Vermont non-profit organizations, and $26,625 to Colorado non-profit groups. In the six year history of VWAP, we have raised and donated over $124,000 to non-profit groups.
We are very proud of the positive impact our races make on the community.

If you register a team, please seriously consider this option. Not only are you giving something back to the communities that you are passing through during the relay, but it can be a less stressful way to satisfy the volunteer requirement.

Timberline Events LLC is also a member of 1% For the Planet (http://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org/en/ )- one percent of all our revenues are donated to environmental organizations.

Remember, you don’t need to have a full team to register. And if you do select the non-profit volunteer option, you can choose to be billed for this amount and pay later (by the end of March for the GMR and the
end of May for the WWR.

On November 1st, online registration will be available on each relay’s web site. For additional information, please go to the appropriate web site and click on the “Entry Info” menu tab.

Hope you are having a wonderful autumn and we look forward to seeing you at one of our relays.
