Race Director Gerard Cain has posted on Facebook that the French Ultra Fest 2014 is looking for a new venue. The 6 Day race planned for Nice has been canceled and the running of the event is in doubt at this time.
“We come to learn that the Nice City Hall refused to host the 6 days… after having accepted and validated the project on the Promenade des Anglais in last June.
It is a huge disappointment and a blow to this test. 8 years of investment in time, money and passion swept aside. The ultra marathon was still once dismissed unceremoniously. Believe that to organise such a test, should really have solid support or be in some circuits, things that we do not have.
We present our apologies to all those who were waiting for this test and that date forward. But unfortunately we are also suffering from this decision which puts the future of the 6 days at risk. Having regard to the date in the year, for the moment we can not ensure that edition in 2014.
Urgent search city…
You have understood, the future 6 days will now depend on a city that wish and wish to host this event.
So, if you know a city and have “support” to present this event, I’m ready to study all proposals.

KO !… Le “6 jours de Nice” est annulé !
Nous venons d’apprendre que la Mairie de Nice refusait d’accueillir le 6 jours… après avoir accepté et validé le projet sur la Promenade des Anglais au mois de Juin dernier.
C’est une énorme déception et un coup d’arrêt à cette épreuve. 8 années d’investissement en temps, argent et passion balayées d’un revers de main. L’ultra marathon a été encore une fois rejeté sans ménagement. A croire que pour organiser une telle épreuve, il faut vraiment avoir des appuis solides ou être dans certains circuits, choses que nous ne possédons pas.
Nous présentons toutes nos excuses à tous ceux qui attendaient cette épreuve et cette date avec impatience. Mais malheureusement nous subissons aussi cette décision qui met ainsi l’avenir du 6 jours en péril. Vu la date avancée dans l’année, pour le moment nous ne pouvons pas assurer d’édition en 2014.
Urgent recherche ville…
Vous l’avez compris, l’avenir des 6 jours dépendra maintenant d’une ville qui souhaitera et voudra accueillir cette épreuve.

This is not good news as I was thinking about attending myself one day. But its similar to my experience with the Adelaide City Council for the inaugural 6-Day. In May 2013 its OK to go ahead then in September more hurdles to jump! My race is still looking good, with many Australians and New Zealander’s wanting to run in their first 6-day race. Its a long and expensive way to travel to France for a first-timer. Hope you can find a more appreciative City as there are many great French ultra-runners!
