TRUMBULL , CONN. — A diverse field including some of the world’s top female runners is signing on for The Coastal Challenge “Route of Fire” coming up in February 2007. From ultra running star Beverly Anderson-Abbs to adventure racing champion Robyn Benincasa, the 2007 World’s Expedition Run is shaping up to be the most diverse and competitive women’s roster in the event’s 3-years.

A few of the women who have already signed on for 2007 …

Beverly Anderson-Abbs, who took first at the inaugural Coastal Challenge in 2005, is returning to defend her crown. One of the top ultra runners in the world today, she and her husband Alan have been chasing the ultra running Grand Slam crown this year.

Robyn Benincasa, an icon and one of the most respected and successful adventure racers in the world, will make her Coastal Challenge debut in 2007. As an adventure racer competing at the highest level, Robyn has been named World Champion at both the Eco-Challenge ( Borneo, 2000) and the Raid Gauloises (1998) expedition length races.

Adventure racing and ultra running competitor and journalist extraordinaire Stefani Jackenthal is a returning veteran of The Coastal Challenge and hasn’t missed one yet. She finished an impressive second in the women’s category in 2005 and returned in 2006 despite an injury that only allowed her to monitor the competition as a reporter. Stefani has written about the race in Runner’s World, Women’s Muscle & Fitness, Trail ( Spain) and Go Outside ( Brazil) magazines among others, and she will re-join the ranks of the running in 2007.

Supporting the international contingent are the returning ladies from Riga, Latvia, Zane Berzina and Eva Eglite, who inspired many runners on the course in 2006 with their good humor and conquering spirits. This year Zane and Eva are also bringing two more friends to take on another Costa Rican adventure.

Registered guests including friends and families of the runners are welcomed back to take on their own adventure including daily tours such as rainforest canopy zip lining, horse back riding and some unforgettable day hikes. Runners and guests can register online, by wire transfer or by check. More information is available at: www.thecoastalchallenge.com, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 203-353-1608.
