The Self-Transcendence 10 day race 2011 hosted by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, SCMT, got underway yesterday in Flushing Meadow Park in New York. Some 34 runners began their 240 hour journey under a blue sunny sky with Spring-like temperatures.
Last years 10 day Womens Champion Kaneenika Janacova is back looking in good shape and amazingly Sarah Barnett is running again just after a warm up at the 1000 km Athens Ultra Festival. Utpal Marshall has a story on Sarah on his blog, Perfection-Journey. Utpal usually goes out to the race everyday and talks to runners and provides a great perspective on how the runners experience the challenges.
I can pick out some familiar faces including Mark Dorion, Bob Oberkehr and Frederick Davis III and 10 day former winner Hubert Muckenhumer but as yet the runners bios have not been posted.
