Next weekend is the Barcelona 24 hour race which starts 12:00 noon on the 17th December along with the 12 hour. The 6 hour starts at 15:00 hours. This is one of the last opportunities of the year for many ultrarunners to qualify for their national teams and so we see quite a few names on the list of runners who will be looking for a good performance.
From the UK, Welsh ultradistance champion Jen Salter will be there as will Heather Foundling-Hawker who came third in the Hungarian 6 day race in May just behind Monica Barchetti who set a new Italian 6 day record in that race.
Paul Hart who ran 226 km on his debut at 24 hours in 2009 is one of the top entrants in contention for the win.
Most of the top runners from the 2010 edition of the race are returning in the 100 strong international field including Christina Gonzalez Garcia, the Spanish 100 km champion in 2009 and 2010, who ran a 3:01 marathon in Valencia two weeks ago.
