Today sees the start of the 6633 Ultra at Eagle Plain in the Yukon. This is a very challenging endurance race in very cold conditions. This ultramarathon event has two options – a 120 mile race and a 350 mile race that finishes in Tuktoyaktuk in the Arctic circle.
The event is organised by Likeys, suppliers of extreme running gear and who also hold several events throughout the year. The race first took place in 2007. In 2010 there were 8 starters for the 350 miler and 2 finishers.
This year there are five runners in the 350 miler and seven runners in the 120 mile race who also have the option to extend their races to the 350 mile event if they wish. Included in the 120 miler are S4C TV presenter Lowri Morgan, Diane van Deren and the UK’s Mike Buss who will be posting on his blog when possible.
