PRE EVENT SPORTS NEWS RELEASE – Ultra Marathon Running
Vietnam 3 day Ultra Marathon – (100 km divided by 40km-40km-20km trail running) – Oct 1-3, 2009
Over 60 HK runners confirm 100km Vietnam stage race – 1 month to go
Hong Kong – Is it in Hong Kong’s blood to do longer international races or is the stress level so high that the ultra running crowd has to escape the cement walls of Hong Kong.
With 5 weeks to go Action Asia Events has confirmed over 60 Hong Kong runners have entered the organizations first 100km stage race in Central Vietnam over the Golden week holiday weekend Oct 1-3 as they have organized over 70 adventure related events in the past 10 years.
But it’s not all elite runners doing the 100km as a few runners have convinced the race organizer to design a shorter 50km option for those wanting to hike instead which the organizer has agreed too with the hope the hikers will be inspired by the mountain runners.
“Runners will be making their way along a network of single track trails linking ethnic hill tribe villages together within 10km of the Laos border that has been under tight security for a long time. These villagers are not use to tourists as many have never seen a tourist, let alone somebody with a hydration system and trail shoes running through their area of the jungle. Best of all the air is clean,” said Course Designer Michael Maddess.
With flights to Vietnam near capacity that weekend getting tickets thru the organizers may be the only way to get a seat, but the catch is you’ll have to train to get it. Interested runners and hikers can check out the organizers website for online booking and payment at www.actionasiaevents.com or email [email protected] before Sept 4, 2009.
