Western States Endurance Run 2011

The 38th Western States Endurance Run will take place along the Western States Trail starting at Squaw Valley, CA, and ending in Auburn, a distance of 100 miles. The trail ascends from the Squaw Valley floor (elevation 6,200 feet) to Emigrant Pass (elevation 8,750 feet), a climb of 2,550 vertical feet in the first 4½ miles. From the pass, following the original trails used by the gold and silver miners of the 1850’s, runners travel west, climbing another 15,540 feet and descending 22,970 feet before reaching Auburn – passing through remote and rugged territory.

Western States is one of the races to run in the US trail ultrarunning world. This year the quality of the field is in keeping with the work that has gone into making this event the legend that it is.

This year 1600 volunteers have helped put this event together. RD Gregg Soderland was interviewed by the the Sacramento Bee yesterday.
Race begins 05.00 PDT 25th June 2011,
