The 2007 event produced a new 48 hour record from the eventual winner Wolfgang Schwerk who had been aiming at Yiannis Kouros’s 6 day record. A firm believer in Self-Transcendence, Schwerk was back for another crack at the goal in this years 7 day event and managed to top last years total of 1,011 km by one km on his way to his second victory in Athens. In second place was fellow German Hans-Juergen Schlotter, who covered 900 km. Third spot was taken by Italian Lucio Bazzana with 854 km.
First lady was Germany’s Martina Hausmann with 804 km and second was Lu Chiu Shu-Jung, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) with 785 km and third place was Maria Tahkavuori from Finland with 732 km.
In the 24 hour event Greek Dimitris Koulakiotis took the honours with 223 km and in second was Ukranian Mykaylo Bogdanov with 213 km and Scotlands William Sichel covered 190 km. First lady was Hungarian Edit Berces with 170km, second was Emilia Rais from Switzerland with 141 km and third place went to Caroline Aistrup from Denmark with 125 km.
