This years Athens Ultra Festival is underway at the old Athens airport in Greece.
Last years 1000 mile winner Wolfgang Schwerk has returned to continue raising standards at the only race this year, so far, to hold a 1000 km division.
South Africans have arrived in numbers this year with five runners as well as familar faces on the european circuit including the experienced Martina Hausman who is battling with No Finish Line winner Sarah Barnett.
In the 7 day race, UK runner Sharon Gayter has a commanding 50 km lead over second placed Austrian Christian Stolovitz.
This Thursday sees the start of the only European 72 hour race currently being hosted followed on Friday by a 48 hour and Saturday with a 24 hour.
