Report
In ten days, the 48-year-old completed a total of 595 miles, 957 km. That makes an average of more than 2 marathons per day on the certified 1 mile circular course in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York. Second was 36-year-old Slovenian, Tatjana Jauk (523 miles) and third place went to 63-year-old Russian Pratishruti Khisamoutdinova (507 miles).
Training for many hours, Surasa prepared specifically for this race. On the course Surasa ran 18 hours a day and wore out two pairs of shoes on the way, customising them to fit by cutting the front upper away to avoid blisters.
Sleeping very little and taking short breaks throughout the day, Surasa maintained her disciplined schedule. Having experience at other ultra distances, Surasa came to the race knowing exactly what she wanted to do and how to do it.
Currently holding the world best times at 700 miles, 1000 kilometers, 1300 miles, her second great passion is running in reverse, having records at 5 km, 10 km, half marathon and marathon.
Austria’s most famous multi-day runner said after the race: “I have had a three and a half year break without a multi-day race. Now it was time again. I am delighted with my achievement and I’m satisfied. ”
