Extreme World Races have details on their site about the the Siberian Black Ice Race – a 155 mile “Marathon” or the 379 mile Ultra-Marathon. The event takes place on Lake Baikal, the deepest and oldest lake in the world. In winter the average temperature is ?19 °C (?2 °F) and the lake surface freezes over. It’s upon this that the runners will run their race starting at Irkutsk, one of the largest cities in Siberia.
The event will start 11th March 2013 for the 155 mile race and 18th March (tbc) for the 379 mile race. Places limited.
