International Tour de Taiwan 2013

Frank Kuo, board member of the IAU  and Chen Hui Ching, finisher of Trans Gaule 2007 and 2008 and the Trans Europe 2009, are organising a new stage race on the Isle of Taiwan, according to the Association of Chinese Taipei UltraRunning.

14 stages for a total of 1100 km, the event will make a complete tour of the island formerly known as Formosa. This first edition of “The International Tour de Taiwan Island Ultramarathon” will take place from 30 March to 12 April 2013, at a time of year when the average temperatures are between 20 and 28 ° C in the Chinese tropics.

In March 2012, the Japanese rider Ryoichi Sekiya, 4 times world champion 24 hours, ran this course in its entirety to express gratitude to the Japanese people for their donations after the earthquake of March 11, 2011 .

Ryoichi Sekiya has already ensured his participation in the first edition of the Tour de Taiwan as has his compatriot Hiroko Okiyama, winner of Trans Gaule 2005 & 2008 and 2006 & 2007 Deutschlandlauf.

The registration fee is € 800 and profits from the event will be donated to research against Multiple Sclerosis. Fifty runners are expected for the first and a maximum of 30 numbers will be reserved for runners from abroad.

While the first ultramarathon in the history of Taiwan was organized in 1999, the discipline has grown rapidly on the island since Taiwan hosted the World Championship in 2006 and each year organizes the 24 hours of Soochow in December which regularly invites the world’s best runners.
