The Everest Trail Race 2015, already in its 5th edition, one of the toughest stage aces in the world, is underway and the first stage is complete with Gurung Bhim B, the winner of the first stage of the Everest Trail Race and Anna Comet was first lady.
The opening ceremony was held in Kathmandu, Nepal on Wednesday, November 11th and participants passed their technical and medical checks and moved to the start of the test on Thursday and, finally, 30 riders will made the start from Jiri on Friday, local time.
The event, entirely Spanish-run, takes place with mountain runners from various countries including Spain, Nepal, UK, France, Germany and Argentina.
The raceis held, as were the four previous editions, in the valley of the Khumbu, with the powerful presence of the colossi Everest, Lothse, Ama Dablan and a large number of peaks emblematic of the Himalayas, between days 12 and 17, contemplating the passage of the runners and adventure lovers, who have accepted the challenge of this unmatched mountain race. The runners will face more than 160 Km and nearly 30,000 meters of accumulated positive and negative gain, in the 2015 edition.
The organization plans to make changes in the next edition, 2016 which will offer even more adventure – if that is possible – by introducing some variations to the original route that will bring the participants to inhospitable and sparsely populated areas, plus some surprises that will unfoldĀ with the runners already in the field.
Cut-off times are generous for both high-level athletes and mountain walkers in good physical condition. However the experience requires good preparation to meet the tough stages that make up this challenge, regarded by many participants of previous editions, as the toughest in the world as far as stage races are concerned.
