It’s Memorial Day weekend here in the US. So here in New York there is the New York Pioneer Memorial 100 miler, which is a 100 mile race over 3 days in 3 different locations. I missed the first day yesterday but happened to make it to the second race today. When I arrived, sitting there on a park bench calmly taking notes was Ted Corbitt and next to him Richie Innamorato. Quietly running around the park were a group of about 20 runners. As I looked at the runners I was transported momentarily back about 20 years. There were runners I remember from the New York Ultra scene of the 80’s. Each runner has to complete 33.3 miles each day to complete the 100 mile race. There is also a 50k race run at the same time. After a lot of encouragement from some of my old friends, I have decided to run the 50k on the last day.
The weather has been quite hot for these days but all the runners seem to be coping quite well. We will see what tomorrow brings.
ps. All the races are in Queens and the last one is in a park not far from where I live.
