After the rain last night I awoke, as I am sure all the runners did, to a beautiful cool and fresh morning.
I arrived at the race site late afternoon, heading straight to the tent city to meet a local runner, Shishaldin Hanlen who was coming to put up her tent. Unfortunately she was delayed. The 26 year old ran her first multiday last year and on Sunday will make her second attempt. About half of the runners pitch tents in a roped off area on the site. There are also a few marquee type tents with cots – t2 for women, 2 for men. For those who like the communal experience.
Things are settling down after the first day and Glen (The 6 day winner from last year) has a 2 mile lead on Rimas (The 10 day winner from last year). Shortly after I get there Rimas decides to go home for an extended break due to an old knee injury flaring up.
There is a cold wind blowing across the lake onto the course forcing the runners to put on some extra clothing.
That’s all for now, check in tomorrow.
