As Dan Rose said on his excellent post there has been very little discussion about the upcoming World and European 24 hour Championships taking place in Poland, September the 8-9th. Maybe because some of the names commonly associated with ultrarunning at this time won’t be there. However the competition is going to be really intense as there some great runners taking part including Yiannis Kouros, who has just ran the Skövde 48 hour race in Sweden. Japan are sending a really strong team of men including Shingo Inoue and Mami Kudo will be taking part for the women.
The USA team has been announced for some time on USAUltrarunning and the GBR team is posted on UKAthletics which includes current UK 100 km champion Emily Gelder and John Pares, both Welsh runners.
Ireland will also be sending a team consisting of John O’Regan and Eddie Gallen. John is the 2012 Irish National Champion having won the title at the Energia 24 Hour race in Bangor, County Down on July 6th-7th.
Running in the women’s team will be Deirdre Finn and Ruthann Sheahan. Deirdre was the national 24 hour champion in 2011 and also included the Bangor 24 Hour race as part of her preparations for Katowice.
The course for the 24 hour Championships is a 5 km loop in Park ?l?ski in Chorzów.
