Career

In 1986 won the Praet The Night of Flanders in an incredibly honorable 6:03.51. It is generally thought that this course was too short, but his time is recognized by the VWJL In 1989, the Night of Flanders expanded and attracted international athletes. In this edition he received opposition from the Hungarian Ernő Kis-Király , who went hunting for the bonus of 30,000 francs, which was offered for the first athlete to the halfway point Middelkerke passed. The Hungarian miner conquered this bonus, which for him was equal to an entire annual salary and dropped down below in the match. Jean-Paul Praet was unleashed and had to finish more than 23 minutes ahead of the Hungarian. [1] His time of 6:15.30 is internationally recognized as a world never. The organization was no evidence of trail measurement according to the required procedure required. However, his performance as European record recognized.

On September 12, 1992 Jean-Paul Praet won the Run Winschoten , which also counted as European Championship 100 km. His time of 6:16.41 was it this time officially recognized, and he ended up with this for the Russian Konstantin Santalov (silver, 6.28,45) and Frenchman Bruno Scelsi (bronze; 6.42,40). His world record of 100 km was improved in 1998 by the Japanese Takahiro Sunada to 6:13.33.
