Stretching almost 500 miles from Denver to Durango, The Colorado Trail passes through the Colorado Rocky Mountains and making its way over mountain ranges, national forests, wilderness areas and the headwaters of five river systems. Its highest point is 13,334 feet.
In 2006 Jon Basham set a new speed record on the Colorado Trail. (8 days, 13 hours/ 475 miles) The record formerly belonged to Hal Koerner at 9 1/2 days. The CT speed record is not in its infancy. There have been at least 4 legitimate attempts on the record by very capable athletes. For Jon to lower the record by a full day is testament to the body of effort he laid out this past summer. Jon hiked southbound and we used a one vehicle/one support person system. (Andrew Thompson)
