Mike Morton set a new 24-hour American Record at the IAU 24-Hour World Championships in Katowice, Poland winning the race. He ran 277.543,73 kilometers, (172.457 miles)surpassing his previous best of 263.87 kilometers and surpassing Scott Jurek's record set at the 2010 24 Hour World Championships of 165.7 miles.

It has been a good year for Morton who won the 25th annual Badwater 135 finishing in 22:52:55, coming very close to Valmir Nunes' course record missing it by just over a minute. Mike set a new course record at the Umstead 100 mile race in March finishing in 13:11:40.
