The Tour de Helvellyn has become a classic ultra run. Takes place on the shortest Saturday in December.

Helvellyn is a mountain, the apex of the Eastern Fells. At 950 metres (3,117 ft) above sea level, it is the third highest peak in both the Lake District and England.

Route

The route starts at Askham, Cumbria and runs around Helvellyn, predominately on trails and bridleways, but climbing to a height of nearly 600m, and a distance of around 38 miles with several thousand feet of ascent and descent..

The terrain is tough mountain trails and so fell running and navigational skills are essential. Entries are limited and strictly limited to experienced and competent entrants. The website says "This is not an event for novice trail runners"
