Cornelia Bullig
Cornelia Bullig (* September 20 1959 in Düsseldorf as Cornelia Benecke) is one of the most successful German ultra-marathon runners. Her strength lies in the range of 24-hour, 48-hour and multiday races. Connie is married to Sigi Bullig.
Career
As a former smoker, Cornelia Bullig in 1994 at the age of 35, began running. She ran her first marathon in Berlin in 1995 and 1997, the first race beyond the marathon distance at the 6-hour run in Stein. In 1999 she won her first 24-hour run in Cologne, 9 more were to follow by mid 2009 in Europe. Women's overall victory in almost all disciplines of ultra marathon running. Cornelia's greatest achievements came at the German Championships of the German Association ultramarathon in 24-hour run with the profits of several podium finishes in both the overall and in her age group. With the LG Northern Berlin club, she was repeatedly German team and vice-Team Champion in the 24-hour run. From 2000 to 2003 she was appointed to the National Team of the 24-hour runners and World/European Challenges four times (unofficial world and European Championships). Here she won twice with the team silver and one bronze at the European Challenge.
Due to the closure of her iliac artery, a successful career was interrupted again and again. After three surgeries she succeeded in 2007 in the 7-day run in Athens [4] (811 km) and the 6-day course in Antibes [5] (775.255 km), each with a track record and German personal best, a comeback. 2008, it was inter alia honored for performance in Antibes by the German Association as an ultra-marathon athlete of the year. For her 50th birthday DUV President Dr. Stefan Hinze devoted a eulogy to her on the DUV website.
