New York Road Runners (NYRR), founded in 1958 with 47 members, has grown into the foremost running organization, with a membership of 40,000. NYRR conducts more than 100 events each year, including races, classes, clinics, and lectures. In addition, the NYRR Foundation creates school-based running teams through Running Partners, a youth development program serving schools with few or no recreation programs.
NYRR conducts the New York Marathon each year on the first Sunday in November and hosts the Kurt Steiner 50k, the Metropolitan 50 miler and the 60-kilometer (37.2 mile) NYRR Knickerbocker 60k.
