Meditation is the art and practice of stilling the mind. Ordinarily the mind is a restless entity that is often identified as the self or the object identified as "me" or "I". However the practice of meditation reveals the mind to be a part of our total being and when it is at peace, the rest of the being can be experienced.

Many techniques and schools exist to teach meditation and there are techniques for everyone who is able to be quiet for a few minutes everyday. As Sri Chinmoy is a meditation teacher who I am familiar with, I recommend reading some of his books or attending a mediatation class to learn the basic techniques. Meditation is a practice as any other that improves with attention and the results of quietude and a balanced mind are among life's greatest treasures.
