In 1985 the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team hosted the first 5 day race of modern times and it ran for three years. In 1988 the race grew to become the Sri Chinmoy 7 Day Race in Flushing Meadow, Queens, New York and ran until 1995 when it was expanded again to become what is now known as the Self-Transcendence 10 Day race.
