Trans-American footraces have been held since the 1880s and more recently, from 1992-1995 inclusively which had aroused enough interest to inspire Moonbat, a Japanese clothing company, to sponsor a series of races. These races were organised by Jesse Dale Riley.
- Alan Firth organised two Race Across America events, in 2002 and 2004.
- In 2011 French Ultrarunner Serge Girard organised the LA to New York Footrace.
