Subject: Icarus Florida Ultrafest races

The Icarus Florida Ultrafest races began this morning, Monday November 16, at Snyder Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Snyder Park is literally within walking distance of the Fort Lauderdale International Airport – John Geesler was walking from the airport to the race when one of the locals recognized him, picked him up, and drove him to the race. Five different races are being offered – a 6-day, a 72-hour, a 48-hour, a 24-hour and a 12-hour race.
The 6-day event got underway at 7:00 AM Eastern Standard Time this morning, and features an international crowd of runners including Jesper Olsen, Kevin Carr, Serge Girard, Ferenc Szonyi, and Michele Notarangelo. Jesper and Kevin are two of the four runners here who have run around the world – Tony Mangan is helping crew a couple of runners and Tom Denniss will be arriving in a couple of days to run the 12-hour event.
Liz Bauer is here, as is Bill Heldenbrand, Ed Ettinghausen, Don Winkley, Bull Dozier, Geesler, Yolanda Holder, Mark McCaslin, Brad Compton, and Joel Gat. A total of 25 runners started the 6-day – 20 men and 5 women.
