The Everest Trail Race 2014

ETR_14_29The 4th edition of the Everest Trail Race has been successfully completed again. There have been six stages winding through the Solokhumbu area of Nepal, with a distance of 160km and over 30,000m of total elevation gain, where –apart from the brave runners- the protagonists have been the local people and the natural beauty of Nepal, whith mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam… as majestic witnesses.

About thirty participants from countries like USA, Nepal, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Mexico, UK, Australia and New Zealand, among others, have lived in intense camaraderie during the six stages of the Everest Trail Race 2014, sharing effort, suffering, joys, disappointments and emotions bubbling just under the surface.

On the sporting side, the Nepalese runner ain (ADEAVENTURA – ANNAPURNA TREKS) won the men’s category with a time of 20h38’45” and Catalan runner Anna Comet (DINAFIT – PROVETSA) won the women’s category with a time of 26h46’43”. Both have clearly dominated the race, winning the six stages.

Rounding out the men’s podium, another Nepalese runner, Phudorjee Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA – ANNAPURNA TREKS), with a time of 20h59’12” and the Basque ultra runner Zígor Iturrieta (COMPRESSPORT), with 23h54’07”.  The UK runner James Eacott (TRI MEETS TRAIL) was fourth with 26h05’26” and the Catalan runner Marc Serra (MASCARELL-SERRA) was fifth with 28h00’17”.

In the women’s race, UK runner Kerry Sutton (TRI MEETS TRAIL) took second place with 30h23’13”; the Nepalese Yangdi Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA-ANNAPURNA TREKS) remained third with 32h54’33”, the Catalan runner Montse Pereira (X-BIONIC) remained in fourth place with 34h39’41”, and the Catalan Pilar Caixach (COSES DE MUNTANYA) earned a creditable fifth place finish with 37h17’52”.

Apart from the undisputed champions of this edition, each and every one of the runners who have crossed the Lukla finishing line deserve recognition. Being finishers can certainly be considered a sufficient merit, because this race may not be the longest, but certainly it is one of the toughest of all mountain races of stages available in today’s international circuit.
