Athens International Ultramarathon Festival 2016 Results

The Athens International Ultramarathon Festival drew to close Saturday afternoon 19th March in Greece. The 6 day race was won by Serbian Jovica Spajic surpassing his own National Record set in 2014 with 701 km.
First (and only lady,) was the UK’s Kate Condon with 448 km.

The 72 hour race was won by Nikos Thanos setting a new pb of 384 km following last years third place. Steven Battle finished fourth after suffering injury after leading in the early stages.

The 48 hour was won by Poland’s Lukasz Sagan with 361 km. Dan Lawson and Richard Brown from the UK both withdrew early due to injury.

The most popular event, which is also the Greek 24 hour championship, drew 43 runners, five of whom were female, and was won by Aleksandr Sorokin from Lithuania with 260.491 and who collected the 500€ prize for breaking the 24hr course record of 250.357K set by Ryoichi Sekiya in March 2010.
Second place went to James Elson with a tremendous performance, tacking on 80+ km to his pb covering 242.497 km. Third was Nikos Sideridis with 206 km.
First lady was Heli Lehtinen from Finland with 181 km. Second was Christine Kioureli with 150 km and third was Athanasia Gkontoura with 142 km.
