Starting at 6 a.m. E.D.T. on Father’s Day Sunday, the world’s longest ultra starts winding its way around the Joe Austin Playground and Thomas Edison High School in Jamaica Hills, Queens, New York.  There is a 52 day limit (60 mile/ day average).  Anyone not finishing the full 3100 miles by that point gets credit and a certificate for whatever distance they achieved.

Called “The Mt. Everest of Ultramarathons” by THE NEW YORK TIMES, the .55 of a mile loop is on mostly concrete paths and includes one significant 8′ hill at the east end of each lap.

Fourteen stalwart runners will answer the starting bell, including the USA’s all-time winningest ultrarunner, Ray Krolewicz. First time runner Jayasalini Olga Abramovskikh will be one of a trio of women taking part along with several former winners, including 2013 champ Vasu Dzuhiy of Russia. Bulgaria’s pioneering multiday specialist Sopan Tsekov also returns seeking his third finish.

Location
The race course is just south of the Grand Central Parkway, the start/ finish lines wedged under the tall shade trees between Jamaica and Edison High Schools.

Getting to the race
(Subway) Nearest subway is at 169th st on the F – its almost the end of the line in Queens. Walk a block to 168th st and walk up the hill about half a mile to 84th Avenue (also called Joe Austin Way) and then take a left and the race home will be a 100 yards on the right hand side of the street just past the Thomas Edison High school.

I am hoping to be by the race with my kids and do a few loops on Father’s Day. (Mark)

Best wishes to all ultra runners around the globe,

Mark & Abichal
