The Namibia 24 Hour Ultra Marathon 2009

Press Release:
Runners join Across the Divide for the ultimate endurance test in the Namibian Desert.

On April 11th over 20 people will be lining up to compete in one of the most extreme challenges of their lives at the start of the Namibia 24 hour Ultra Marathon.

The Namibia 24 hour Ultra Marathon is organised by adventure specialists, Across the Divide, and can be run for a charity of choice or simply for personal achievement. The Ultra Marathon will see distance runners, including well known Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton, covering 126kms of the oldest desert in the world in just 24 hours. adventure_racing

The event is certain to provide the ultimate in adventure, whilst pushing competitors to their limits as they pass through the vast volcanic plains, striking mountains and the Messum Crater, facing extreme temperatures ranging from 5°C at night to an intense 35°C during the midday sun.

For the less ambitious still in search of a serious challenge, a marathon of 42km will be taking place at the same time as the 126km run. This marathon follows the same course as the longer run, but stops at the 42km rest station and must be completed in eight hours.

All contestants participating in the marathon will be completely self reliant from start to finish and will need to carry all food and equipment on their backs. Water stations and medical tents will be provided at 20km intervals along the route.

Operations and Development Director at Across the Divide, Steve Clark says, “We’ve been thrilled with the response to this year’s 24 hour Ultra Marathon. The event is both mentally and physically challenging and will be a fantastic achievement for all involved.”

Across The Divide has over 11 years experience of organising exceptional worldwide challenges and has helped to raise over £30 million pounds for worthy causes. Quality and safety is paramount to Across the Divide and all events are planned using highly qualified staff and experienced UK medical teams.
