THE COASTAL CHALLENGE REACHES INTERNATIONAL MILESTONES
Fifteen Countries to be Represented; Runners 18- to 69-Years-Old to Compete

TRUMBULL, CONN. — The Coastal Challenge, the World’s Expedition Runâ„¢, and has already set a number of significant milestones for its third edition scheduled for February 2007 including the most countries ever represented and the oldest and youngest competitors ever to compete.

The Route of Fire, as it has been dubbed because of the course’s proximity to Costa Rican volcanoes as well as the temperature and heated competition that is expected, will include competitors from at least 15 nations — the most that have ever been represented at this event. Runners have signed up from Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

The race, which includes an Expedition Run (230-km course) and Adventure Run (115-km course) plus registered Guest Adventure Tours, has also signed on its youngest and oldest competitors ever. Tara McFadden, from Ireland, will turn 18-years-old just a month prior to the race making her the youngest runner ever to take on The Coastal Challenge. Jay Norman, from Dallas, Texas, is competing for his third year and at 69 is the most senior runner ever to compete in the event.

“These are important milestones showing that The Coastal Challenge is growing and attracting a wide variety of runners of all ages from around the world,” said Tim Holmstrom, the event’s co-founder and race director. “We also have a good number of returning runners, which is a significant achievement for a race held in the same country each year.”

Other interesting facts, statistics and milestones (as of December 5, 2006):
• Women comprise 30 percent of the competitive field.
• Twenty-five percent of registered runners are veterans of the event.
• More than half of the registered runners are from outside of the United States.
• People from more than 60 countries worldwide have visited The Coastal Challenge Web site.
