October 15th saw the start of the 48 hours of Royan and this morning, the 16th, saw the start of the 24 hour event.
Royan is 100 km north of Bordeaux on the West coast of France in the Bay of Biscay.
The course is a 1.2 km flat loop on a traffic free road.
48 runners have signed up for the 48 hour race including Scotlands William Sichel, 2008 winners Christian Fatton and Martina Hausmann. 51 runners are signed up for the 24 hour.
