The Trans-New Zealand Te Araroa Trail 2012

Australian Richard Bowles is on day 9 of a projected 60 day traverse of New Zealand via the 3054 km Te Araroa trail. Richard started on Saturday 13 October, at Cape Reinga in the North of New Zealand and will follow the trailto Bluff in the South where he plans to arrive on 15th December.

The Te Araroa Trail opened on 3 December 2011 and passes through through seven cities as well as forests, volcanoes, mountain passes, river valleys. It’s one of the longest walking routes in the world. Hundreds of volunteers have worked for over a decade to create the trail and Richard will be the first person to run the entire length. Typically it takes hikers 100 days or more to complete and offers people the ability to experience some of the most magnificent aspects of New Zealand.

Combining a passion for adventure, his love of running, and a determination to make a positive contribution to the places through which he runs, Richard is raising funds and awareness for Project Crimson, a leading conservation organisation.
