Half Marathon Nuevo Laredo 12/9/07 Ricky Garza sent an e-mail reference races he would be at – sort of calender of races in South Texas area. Listed was a half marathon in Nuevo Laredo. Half marathons in Mexico have an atmosphere which is so exciting – they feed my addiction to that which is foreign, slightly dangerous, uncertain and really competitive. (more…)

New York City Marathon Results 2007

Paula Radcliffe of England made a stunning comeback at the ING New York City Marathon leading from the start to win in 2:23:09. Gete Wami of Ethiopia was second, good enough to take the first World Marathon Majors title and Latvia’s Jelena Prokopcuka was third.

Martin Lel of Kenya beat out Abderrahim Goumri of Morrocco to win the ING New York City Marathon in 2:09:04. Hendrick Ramaala finished third.

Ryan Hall wins the Olympic Marathon Trials in New York with Dathan Ritzenhein and Brian Sell in second and third places. Halls time was 2:09:02.

Sadly, the 2003 USA marathon champion, Ryan Shay, died at the 5 mile mark. For more details visit www.usatf.org

Dipavajan Brenner at the Berlin Marathon 2007

Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team member Dipavajan Renner was in Berlin to see the world record, here is his account:

It was a unique experience to stay with these fast runners in the same hotel, and see how they warm up and how they relax during the days before the race. To witness their intensity, determination and concentration which they put into “their” sport is an unforgettable experience. This year’s field faded into insignificance by the overwhelming presence of today’s world best Marathon runner, Haile Gebrselassie from Ethiopia, who has dominated the running world like
nobody else for the last decade.

His declared goal was to break in Berlin the Marathon World Record, which was still held by his close friend Paul Tergat from Kenya.

Marathon World Record Holders – Haile Gebrselassie & Paula Radcliffe

In the 2007 Berlin marathon, Haile Gebrselassie lowered the world record held by Kenya’s Paul Tergat by 29 seconds to 2:04:46. It works out to a 4:45 mile pace.

Women’s marathon world record holder, Paula Radcliffe, resumed running after a 21 month break and giving birth to a baby girl, at the Great North Run half marathon, coming second behind Kara Goucher who finished in 66:57 setting a new American record and the fastest half marathon in the world this year. Paula set the World record during the 2003 London Marathon, with a time of 2:15:25.
