Route 66 Marathon 2007

ROUTE 66 MARATHON TEAMS UP WITH OU MEDICINE OF TULSA
TULSA, OKLA – October 5, 2007 – Organizers of the second annual Route 66 Marathon announce OU College of Medicine Tulsa as the official health sponsor for November’s marathon event.
“Being part of the Route 66 Marathon is the perfect way for OU to raise public awareness of the benefits of daily exercise,” said Monty Cavanagh, Director of Sports Medicine, OU College of Medicine, Tulsa. “OU’s commitment to community health fits hand in glove with the marathon’s focus of encouraging physical fitness.”
OU Tulsa has agreed to provide basic triage and major medical care for all runners participating in all four races. The assembled health team will include five physicians, resident physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists strategically located on the route, amounting to between 15-20 personnel. All staff members have extensive training in medical triage, first aid and CPR.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the OU College of Medicine in Tulsa,” said Chris Lieberman, Route 66 Executive Director. “I applaud their leadership and dedication to community wellness. This partnership is a signal to the Tulsa community that we’re going to great lengths to make sure the event is safe yet competitive.”
The race will be run in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday, November 18, 2007 and will showcase at least 6,000 runners from around the world. The run will be USATF sanctioned and certified, as well as a Boston Marathon qualifier. Other events include a half-marathon, quarter marathon, marathon relay, and a kid’s marathon.
All marathon participants will receive a goody bag, Official Route 66 Marathon Shirt and Finisher’s Medal. Marathon finishers will also receive a finisher’s shirt. Those finishing their first marathon will receive a special “My First Marathon” edition of the finisher’s medal. Additional awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female runners in the standard, clydesdale, and filly age divisions.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tulsa Area United Way. Post marathon festivities will be held at Veterans Park and include two live bands, a large array of food vendors, and classic car show.
