John Wachira Wins Two Oceans Ultramarathon 2009

2oceansThe Two Oceans Marathon is a 56 km / 35 mile ultramarathon held annually in Cape Town, South Africa on the Saturday of the Easter weekend. The race starts in Newlands, and follows a more or less circular route through Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, over Chapman’s Peak and Constantia Nek, and eventually finishes at the University of Cape Town campus.

This year’s Old Mutual Two Oceans ultra marathon (2009) was won by John Wachira from Central Gauteng (originally from Kenya) in a time of 3:10:06. Marco Mambo of Zimbabwe, who was trying to win the gruelling race for a fourth time, was second, less than a minute behind Wachira. Mapisela(Mpesela) Ntlotsoeu was third.

The womens race was won comfortably by thirty-one-year-old identical Russian twins, Elena and Olesya Nurgalieva,  crossing the UCT finish line together in 3hr 40min 43sec.
