The 2005 Self-Transcendence 10 & 6 day Races

Flushing Meadow, Queens,New York



The self-Transcendence 10 and 6 day races are run on a mile loop in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New york. The track is open 24 hours a day and the race is a go-as-you-please format trying to accumulate as many miles as possible in the time limit. The runners rest in tents and food and assistance is provided.

Miroslav Pospisek has won the 2005 Self-Transcendence Race with 564 miles. In second place was Pavol Saraz with 540 and Luois Rios took third spot with 480. The ladies race was dominated from the beginning by Nataliya Hlushchuk in her first multiday race who finished with 515 miles. Second place was Sarah Barnett with 475 after a tremendous battle with Karina Ward running 62 miles on the last day. Karina totaled 471 miles for the 10 days

Latest news 6 day race
Congratulations to Danny Ripka for winning the Self-Transcendence 6-day race in New York with 478 miles - an average of almost 80 miles a day. Danny was supported throughout by his wife Pat and friends Don and Paul who travelled some distance to offer encouragement in Danny's first attempt at a multiday race.
Second place for the men was Martin Wagen from Switzerland with 441 miles. Martin looked relaxed throughout the race and ran 87 miles on the last day. Third place was local runner Rimas Jakelaitis who led the race until the 5th day. His knee began troubling him yet he hung on for 400 miles.

Since the 6-day race's inception in 1998 there have been eight 6-day races and making this years race eight wins out of eight is Dipali Cunningham Finishing with 474 miles Dipali has demonstrated again hertremendous capacity for this distance. Last year the second best highest total for a lady was over 100 kms short of Dipali's 770 km., a total that placed her third behind Achim Heukemes and Claude Hardel overall.
In second place was Kaneenika Janakova from Bratislava, Slovakia who set a new National record with her 407 mile performance which supersedes last years record of 406. In third place also exceeding her previous best was Frederike Makowka with 393 miles who ran a great race.
